Principals Message

 

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year Finley families,

 

It is with great excitement that I welcome all of you to Finley Computer Science Magnet School.  We are overjoyed to see your children soon and cannot wait to impact their lives in a way that will make a positive difference academically and socially.  As the principal, I realize the importance that these years play in a child’s life and we are honored to have the opportunity to assist them establish a solid foundation on a daily basis.  As you will see to start the year, a transformation has taken place within our walls, and we strive to keep true to our new motto, “Empowered by Innovation”.  To meet our goals, we will be integrating computer software programming starting in Kindergarten, use of Robotic equipment in both the primary and upper grades, logic games such as blindfolded chess starting in 3rd grade, and text based computer programming ‘Where our students don’t play Minecraft, they’ll be making Minecraft’!  The integration will take place in all core curriculum areas: Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, which will enhance our students ability to think critically   and logically in any subject area.  It’s safe to say that we’re doing something special around here and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Here at Finley Computer Science Magnet School, home of the 3A Eagle Way: “Act Respectfully, Act Responsibly, and Act Safely!” we realize that there is more to develop in a child than the academics alone.  Through the implementation of our Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), we educate and assist students in developing skills to conduct themselves and handle situations in a way that would serve them well in any areas of their life.

We, at Finley Computer Science Magnet School, recognize that we cannot accomplish our goals alone.  It is for that reason that we will continue to offer a variety of opportunities for parent involvement that include parent teacher conferences, parent education seminars, School Site Council, English Language Advisory Committee, PTA, and classroom volunteers. Be sure to let your teacher or the office know if you are interested in volunteering on campus.

Back to School Night- September 21, 2017, 6:00 to 7:30 PM

Trimester #1- October 16-20, 2017

Trimester #2- March 19-23, 2018 for “At Risk Students”
