Welcome to Finley Computer Science Magnet School!
Greetings Finley Eagle Families!
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I hope you have enjoyed your summer and had a chance to relax and create great memories with family and friends!
The Finley Staff has been working hard to prepare an exciting year to engage all students in reaching grade level standards and will continue to provide additional learning opportunities for those who may need more time. In addition to being a Computer Science Immersion school, I am also excited to share that our school is on the path to become a Certified AVID Elementary School, which means we will focus ensuring our students begin their College and Career journey the moment that walk on our campus. The AVID program prepares students to be successful in school by using a variety a strategies that are proven to help students succeed. We look forward to launching our AVID program and sharing all of its benefits with you in the next few months. You may not have heard of WICOR yet, but you will know what it means in no time flat! And since AVID Elementary is focused on College and Career readiness, get out your favorite college t-shirt. Wednesday's will be "College Wear Wednesdays" for all students this year.
As a Computer Science Magnet School, we are also expanding our Computer Science program to include Robotics, Engineering Design and Media Arts! Our program will provide students the opportunity to develop thinking skills that will help them become strong problem solvers. By learning how to code, students develop essential skills such as creativity, persistence and collaboration, all a must in today’s world. At Finley, you will see students are learning and applying their knowledge to help solve real-life problems, think critically and prepare to be productive members of their communities. Whether it’s reading or writing, math or science and social studies, you will see students working together and sharing their ideas, using the computer science and technology skills they have developed in meaningful ways.
We also believe that school should be a positive place for our students. Our staff collaborates to build safe and supportive relationships with all students, our classrooms are alive with technology and hands-on activities, and when you walk through the doors, you can hear learning come alive. We hope you will stop by and see the amazing things happening!
At Finley, we also believe our parents are vital to our success. We invite you to participate in our school community through a variety of volunteer opportunities. From supporting school activities, being a member of the PTA or serving on a governing council, there is an opportunity for everyone.
I am proud to be a Finley Eagle and be a part of this amazing committed learning community! I look forward to working with all our families to ensure each child’s success!
