Character Traits of the Month

Westminster School District Character Traits of the Month

What is Character Education?

Character Education is teaching of children in a manner that will help them develop as moral, civic, well mannered, behaved, non-bullying, healthy, critical, successful, traditional, or socially acceptable beings. It is infused throughout the entire culture of the school, is embedded in the Westminster School District’s discipline procedures and in the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) management system.
Each month our school will feature a different attribute as a building block in teaching our children how to become good citizens. To provide a common foundation of ethics standards, we will be planning activities around our “Attribute of the month.” They will be taught as follows:

Caring…September
Respect…October
Responsibility…November
Gratitude…December
Fairness…January
Citizenship…February
Self-control…March
Perseverance…April
Integrity…May
Courage…June

Note:
Concepts that now and in the past have fallen under this term include social and emotional learning, moral reasoning and cognitive development, life skills education, health education, violence prevention, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and conflict resolution and mediation.
